The screen used suit was indeed a motorcycle racing suit. It has been confirmed through various sources at LFL as well as stunt personnel from the film. It was not leather, it was similar to an auto racing suit except more form fitting. People need to remember to stop trying to find modern solutions to vintage apparel. From what I have found a single layer proban style auto racing suit fitting more snuggly will more adequately replicate the screen used suit than anything else. Most if not all of the screen suits pockets, pouches, zippers and whatnot were covered up by the rest of the costume.
