Ok Scouts,
This is a question that needs to be anwsered! We need to find the real boot used to make the Scout boot. Here are some MOTM reference pics...

Number of downloads: 340Remember, they filmed the Scout scenes of ROTJ in Redwood City, CA. So these could be US boots. But they might be from the UK too. Any Ideas? UPDATE - Consolidated post from the old message boards.... On the Endor commando boots-- "The boots are definately "Sierra Sneakers" which were popular with California backpackers in the early 80's, and that's the color they came in. (the speederscout is wearing them too, under fake white boot covers). i don't know if they still exist. good substitutes would be desert issue combat boots, Timberlands, or dyed Converse All-Stars sneakers. The gaiter is a khaki canvas, made in 3 panels, with velco closure up the back seam. the edges are tape bound top and bottom."

holy information....
not real boots at all? sneakers with covers! This is a good find then. Save yourself a couple bucks and the trouble with stretching vinyl! Are you considering make a pair, or do you own a pair of CA's?? Might be easy to modify the Converse, seeing that I need a US size 13.5 shoe! fk |

I made some boots using JC's tutorial. I used standard US Infantry Desert Tan boots. I'll post pics later on today. I've got a size 13 boots, so I'm feeling your pain about the large shoes. To be honest, the boot looks a little funny because the boot is so big. (IMG:http://forum.bikerscout.net/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

Has anybody had any success in getting the "Sierra Sneakers"? It has been awhile since anyone has posted on this thread and I was just curious if anyone found a good link to pick some up.

They're no longer made, your best luck is ebay or a thrift store. I have done endless searchs on the net for them and no luck finding any. The closest shoe still is the Israel combat boot. And there are 2 sties for them. Israel Combat Boots #1 Israel Combat Boots #2 Ebay Israel Combat Boots #3 Your best luck will be the first site above, ebay has them cheap but its hard to find the right size you need. |

Chris Agree with Chris and I have made lots of boots for scouts here, I have a pair of these boots made into scout boots and it was alot more work to make them. I did find them comfy to me, but it does take a lot of work to make glue stick to the slick sole rubber used with the boots. I had rough up the egdes of the sole where the vinyl is attached to make the glue hold orther wise it just peels off very easy. Stay with the payless work boots unless your lucky enough to find the real deal. The Isreal boots are only really good for the Endor Commando outfit. Which I will be using them for when I get the Endor Commando outfit done for C4. |

The "sierra sneakers" is not the name of the boot but the style. I have tracked down some leads for getting the circa 1980 boot and will get back to everyone asap.

So from a bit of digging, the trademark to "Sierra Sneaker" is held by The Original Footwear Company in Salinas, California, which is close to Modesto (where George grew up). I haven't been able to turn up a phone number or e-mail address yet. Still digging, but I thought I'd keep you posted.
I'm also working from the other end. There are a lot of hiking enthusiasts and clubs here in the Seattle area. This is where REI and Eddie Bauer started. There are a lot of people I know who have been deeply into the activity for decades, and are likely to know what I'm talking about, and maybe have some suggestions as to where I might be able to find some. --Jonah |

A few months ago there were HI-TEC boots (a sub- or co-brand) in one of the prop forums for sale.
Those were the green ones with woodland camo but they would have been ideal to cast the soles and make a run just like Reinone did with the Jango boots on DH. The problem is that I got no cash that time and now that I have some I lost track of the last owner. We also lost the name/contact to the guy who recovered Sierra Sneaker IV from italy in 2005 or early 2006 (those shown in the gallery) I really want these boots now that I got the real gloves...it's just that one item that is so recognizable on a scout but still missing.... The lack of a proper suit is not as bad as missing the proper boots. |

Well, I agree there are some costumes out there we don't have to talk about...
But the usual case is that a 501st scout has an acceptable overall making it less noticable being not original than the boots. That's what I've meant. You don't have to agree of course (IMG:http://forum.bikerscout.net/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) |

Ah, THAT suit. *heh* Thought you meant the white stuff (hard and soft) worn over. Everything with our various costumes is coming together. These damned boots are about the only real sticking point at the moment.

I can understand the want for hyper-accuracy, but why should it be so important to get the boots so right? They are covered up in vinyl, after all. No one is going to match boot tread patterns and, if you buy the right boot to begin with, it is pretty simple to carve the midsole pattern on the heel, if you so desire. Maybe we ought to find out what kind of underwear the actors were wearing so we could be even more anal... (IMG:http://forum.bikerscout.net/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)
Sorry if I am coming off a little harsh here, but I think time would be better spent on determining the authentic jumpsuit they wore than boots no one is going to get a good look at. The jumpsuit is much more visible, yet almost everyone is content with wearing crappy, cheap, thin flightsuits. |

It's not that I demand it from anyone else - it's just my own crazy agenda.
It's not hwat is under the vinyl - it is the soles that I want and those are quite characteristic unfortunately. I know a lot of people probably don't even pay much attention below the belt equator but for me it's an important detail. Of course my suit will also match the original as good as I can get it. I negelct other things though. |

Well, if it's you, Phil, I understand completely. (IMG:http://forum.bikerscout.net/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) There's nothing wrong with striving to be the most accurate. My understanding from reading the start of this thread was probably misplaced. Anyway, I think we've had this conversation before. LOL

And it's a matter of focus for me. I concentrate the hell out of something. Once I have it nailed I move on to the next. Jen's got a good undersuit, and I'm going to be improving it further with my next pass. Ditto her flak vest. Trial and error has determined where to place the velcro to hold her armour in place. I'm eventually going to get another set of that, to fix the few errors I made in what she has now. Got a line on a good Hyperfirm Scout blaster for her to have at trooping events. Getting an MLCv3 bucket for her. Gonna get the Espree gloves off eBay and mod them further to have the accurate pleats.
All that is then left is the boots. She has something passable for the moment, but I want to bump that up. Ideally, I could coax the Original Footwear Company to do a two-year limited run of a few of the old Type 4s -- maybe even with the modded soles -- for us to grab and convert. At the very least I want to find two pairs from somewhere -- one in her size to mod into the Scout boots, and one to keep as a reference to have custom-made replicas made. Maybe by CABoots. I'd be happy to work in conjunction with them to mod them into the Scout boots so they can take those horrid things off their site. *heh* Like I said, I'll keep everybody posted. I'm never going to be a Scout myself, but there's no reason why I can't use my detective training on the Pathfinders' behalf.
